Parity
A fallen celestial, though its radiance
Not as revered as years before,
Remains the star that we once knew.
The journey to earth blazed bright
And from its light grew
Every memory that I held of you.
I know what it is to expose
The fleshy underside of my temporal frailty.
What horrors, were all the world to see
My failures with such clarity.
Was it meant for me?
The simultaneous silence of the traffic underneath
And the stillness of my mind which bore this view,
Vincent, with his absinthe, must have seen?
I watch the water slowly drain,
A cat with a view on the windowsill,
Until the blinds are closed,
As yet unrobed.
At the bottom only truth remains -
We're all the same.
